Arctic Blast

Last year the buzz word was Polar Vortex. This year is just a plain old Arctic Blast.
Today it feels like both an Arctic Blast with a Polar Vortex added for good measure.

It's sunny, bright and cold. -20oC this morning with a wind chill of -30oC.
Overnight we had a little bit of snow, maybe 10cm or so but it was windy so the blowing snow made sand-dune like features on the lake.

When I took off my glove to take this photo, my fingers started burning. It's cold enough right now to freeze exposed skin quickly. Needless to say I didn't take too many photos on our walk this morning.

All the footprints made last weekend are gone, just fresh footprints from Lucy. She rather likes the snowman who seems unfazed by the cold weather.

Look at that long blue shadow made by the snowman, a sign that spring is slowly on it's way.

When the temperature climbs up to a balmy -16oC this afternoon, we'll go back down to the lake and shovel off the rink. There's a dune of fluffy snow on top of the perfect skating ice underneath.

  1. It sure looks cold...I always have to go convert from C to F...we had the temps like that 2 or 3 weeks ago...that was enough to last me for the winter.
