Spring babies

Here's one of our many Chipmunk babies sitting on the fence outside the kitchen window and under a Birch which is acting like an umbrella.

All week, I've been watching momma Hairy Woodpecker feeding her baby boy, who incidentally is larger than she is.  She has been trying to get him to fly over to the railing feeder. Today he finally made the leap.
However even though he's beside the feeder, she still has to feed her big boy.

Then he clung for dear life to a railing post, sliding down s-l-o-w-l-y in the process.

This is an adult male Goldfinch.  The Goldfinches stay around all year long but aren't as bright yellow as this during the winter months.

I could waste a whole day just watching nature.  Come to think of it, I do exactly that.

  1. The chipmunk/ground squirrel is adorable...and I can spend the whole day watching the birds, too...and playing on the computer.

  2. The chipper is adorable!!!!! A couple of days I saw my first-ever baby chipmunk. Mommy was leading Baby down the road (rotten mother) and I have NEVER seen anything cuter! Baby was the size of a MOUSE.
Are your chipmunk babies that small?
