Sounds in the Sugar Bush

I have no idea how the term "Sugar Bush" came to be. Maple trees certainly aren't bushes by any means. And a bunch of Sugar Maples should be called a grove, or a stand or even an orchard.

The same goes for the term 'Sugaring'. It's sap boiled to syrup from a maple tree having the highest sugar content. It's not about turning it to sugar ... although through further processing it could be made into sugar.

And who invented or first stumbled upon boiling sugar maple sap into syrup?
One account I read was Native People way back in the 1600's cooked a deer in maple sap as some sort of ceremonial feast.  I'll bet that was tasty!
Stewed Venison in a maple reduction.....$27.00

Other accounts suggest early explorers or trappers discovered making syrup from maples.

It seems no one knows exactly where or when it began nor is there any account of how the terminology evolved, well, not that I could find on-line at any rate.
