Boat ride

It was such a beautiful day yesterday that we decided to go for a boat ride.

We met up with the Wennonah II sailing past Christmas Island.  There didn't appear to be any passengers on board so we suspect it was deadheading to the locks and then on to Lake Rosseau.

We honked our horn and the Captain waved and tooted back.

We went  past Millionaires Row.  Back when Lake Muskoka was becoming a tourist destination in the early 1900's, millionaires from the U.S. built cottages here, hence the name.
I don't know who own's this summer retreat but I do know they have staff because I've seen waiters dressed in white serving the owners cocktails on their dock.
I want staff too.

This summer home is or was owned by Mr. Mellon of the Mellon Bank fame.

The water is still high and no doubt the wealthy owner of this boathouse is annoyed.

Both of his boathouses seem to be underwater.

Then we went past Touchstone.  Many of the units are on a discount sale right now.
Originally this place was a resort called Aston Villa, then it was a Holiday Inn (where the twins had summer jobs) and now it's a fractional ownership condo.

As our good friend Monk (a.k.a. The National Treasure) likes to point out 'the west wind shapes the Pine' and you can see that on just about every land point.

And speaking of trees, most of the cell towers around the lake are disguised as tall evergreens. I think it looks much better than a steel structure with metal boxes and satellites dishes.

We went looking for loons on our boat ride and usually there is one nesting around here.  We didn't see one sadly.

Almost home ... we passed this cottage and boathouse.
When I was a child I used to think the architecture of this cottage looked like my father's stereo unit, you know, the giant piece of furniture that housed a turntable, stereo and speakers. I still think it does indeed look like a vintage stereo unit.

On the next sunny day we'll go out again and take in another section of the lake.
