Swim before (another) storm.

The storm that ripped through here on Friday took out power for a little over 24hrs.
In town the storm damage is quite severe and some folks won't have their hydro restored until sometime this week.
On Taylor, Miller and Rankin Islands; hydro won't be restored for 2 weeks!

The weather radar shows another storm is approaching so we told Lucy to go for a swim right away.
Lately, all she wants to do is dig for rocks instead of swimming.

She keeps her eyes open when she puts her head underwater. Maybe we should get her goggles to help her see better?

Muriel heard us and came over with what is left of her family.  Initially she had 8 chicks but is now reduced to 3.

Mallards, like deer, seem to have a rough time surviving.  Canada Geese seem to thrive well in our bay but for our sweet little Mallards there are just too many predators and momma duck can't save them all.

When ordering the Martin Short $3 coin of Muskoka from the Mint, we came across the 25 cent piece with a painting of Ralph and Muriel.  Of course we just had to get it.

Meanwhile the rain is approaching and Lucy is giving us the look that she doesn't want to get out of the water.

Generator plugged in and ready to go...flashlights handy.....cells phones charged... we're ready to go off the grid again.

  1. That was quite a storm, wasn't it?! I thought for sure we would loose power, but we were lucky. Still slept in the basement though!
I love seeing Lucy. Brings back such great memories when our labs were young. Our's also loved digging for rocks. Guess it's bad for their teeth, but we sure couldn't convince them to stop. We just lost our beloved Cheyenne at 14 years, last month. Sure do miss her.

  2. Poor Muriel...hate that she loses her babies....Lucy looks like she is having fun! Can't imagine being out of power for two weeks!
