Marshmallow Roast

After dinner last night, we invited the neighbourhood Tent Caterpillars to a marshmallow roast.

There are a lot of tent caterpillar nests around here this year and many of the trees have had all of their leaves eaten.
I recall one summer, maybe 30 years ago, when most of the forests around here were defoilated by these critters.

It was a pleasant evening to sit outside in front of the fire.  The only sound were the crickets and of course the wood crackling.

Funny thing, there is a Puffball growing right in front of the Chiminea. It looks like a giant marshmallow.  It got some burn marks on it from the sparks though.

Overnight there was a nasty thunder and lightning storm.  Poor Lucy tried to hide behind the hot water tank as she was so frightened by the noise.
This morning there is a faint smell of smoke in the air.  So there must be a lightning caused forest fire or structure fire somewhere.
Or perhaps someone else has invited tent caterpillars over for a marshmallow roast?
