Snowshoes

For my birthday last year, I got a new pair of snowshoes.
Funny how they are called snowshoes because they aren't like shoes at all.  They are more like badminton or tennis rackets.

They are a royal pain to put on if you don't have a dry spot to sit down.
I can't put them on up at the cottage because there is no way anyone could navigate the stairs down to the lake wearing snowshoes.
So I have to make unearthly grunting noises while I bend and twist in order to strap my boots into them.

Next, one has to walk with legs apart and it takes a bit of doing to get the stride just right.

Lucy, who has built in snowshoes with her webbed paws, and I,  plodded out to the middle of the bay.

It sure was quiet.  The cottagers that were up over the holidays have gone home.  The lake will be buzzing next weekend though.

We suggested David buy a pair of snowshoes so he can join us when we go mushing across the bay.

It's good fun once you get them strapped on and then get into the stride of walking like you forgot your talcum powder.

  1. I grunt and groan just putting on show in a normal fashion...cannot imagine what I would sound like getting those on!
