Holes.

While we were out walking in the woods this overcast and gray day, we came across these wood shavings.

A woodpecker has been busy drilling holes into the trees. I suspect it's the handiwork of a Pileated Woodpecker.

Woodpeckers really scar the trees with their hole-making as they look for bugs to eat.

The holes on this tree make it look like a Totem.

There's not too much left of this tree. Not even holes!

I'm not sure if the holes in this tree are condos or the result of a woodpecker looking for food.

This hole is definitely a home.  Perhaps for Flying Squirrels.  Maybe I should put out the Stealth Cam and see who comes out?

And through a hole in the branches is the lake.

So on this overcast and gray day, I plan to hole up in my sewing room and get some projects completed.

  1. I always wonder if woodpeckers can sense that there is bugs where they peck, or do they peck in the hopes of finding one?

At work, there was a big zinc tub turned upside down out back of the barn....there was a Flicker that would get on it every day for a while and peck...so it really leaves me not knowing what to think. Or did he do that cause he liked the noise it would make?
