Oh dear.

This morning, something spooked Lucy over on the neighbours yard, so I went to investigate.

Oh dear, oh deer!

Using the zoom on my camera, from our deck we could see the carcass and there wasn't much left.

Ravens, Hawks and another giant bird I'm sure was an Eagle have been having their dinner.

A wolf or coyote or maybe a pack must have come through last night.  I read that a wolf can eat up to 22 lbs of meat in one go and then not eat again for a whole week. It's feast or famine with them.

We've all seen wolf/coyote tracks around our area during the winter. They live here too.
One neighbour down the way watched a wolf drag a deer carcass across the lake to an island not too long ago.
I'm sure our neighbours who are in Flordia right now and whose property this carcass is on would probably like the wolves/coyotes to come back and drag away this carcass!

Here's the track a wolf or coyote made as is hunted down it's dinner last night.

We're keeping a watchful eye out for scavengers such as Fishers, Foxes and other hungry critters who will come and dine on the carcass too.

  1. It is all part of the cycle of life...but sometimes I wish otherwise.
