The forecast is calling for warmers days and warmer nights. That means the sap will stop running until next year. Therefore we figure that today was our last gathering/boil.
The sap was running like faucet turned on full Friday and Saturday. We boiled the sap from Friday during the day on Saturday and got a little over a liter.
The sap that ran Saturday we boiled Sunday and got 1 liter. It was dark and very rich maple tasting.
So here' the breakdown.... from the 6 trees we tapped we got 10 liters of syrup.
We went through 3 propane tanks and we had to make a small investment in sap buckets, lids, spiles and a filter.
But it isn't about the money. It never is. It's about the journey.
We had fun. Our kids had fun. Our friends had fun.
And when we serve pancakes to our guests this summer we can pour on 100% pure maple syrup that came from the trees just outside the window!
We are TOTALLY going to do this again next spring.
You will be serving your friends liquid gold! Well, almost, and it is better than gold.
ReplyDeleteAnd next year all you will be buying is the propane.
