However it was only in the past few days that I spotted it; a male and as red as can be but it was hiding amongst the branches so I couldn't get a very good photo of him.
The female cardinal is a brownish green colour and she will sing just as heartily as the male but I haven't seen a female just the male.
It's rare to see or hear Cardinals way out here. They tend to be in populated areas.
Faintly hoping that there might indeed be a female and they are nesting close by I got the bright idea to play the sound of a Cardinal from my laptop outside on the deck to see what would happen.
Well sure enough, not a few minutes after playing the sound the male showed up and not only started singing but made a few passes checking out the source of the sound and we were able to get a good photo of him.
Well whatever, it sure is fun wasting time watching the birds and playing songs for them.
Oh, I had never thought of doing that...will have to try that sometime...for a Carolina wren. I have cardinals that come...they are just so beautiful.
