Most of the sap buckets were quite full this morning although the sap was partly frozen.
This bucket had the least amount of sap, maybe 1/4 full, and frozen.
I had to use snowshoes to get to the buckets because the snow is so deep and fragile. There's a light crust of ice on top of the snow that barely supports Lucy's weight.
At any rate, we got somewhere between 60 and 70 litres of sap. We put some of it in our evaporator (a.k.a. turkey fryer), hooked it to a propane tank and then and to coin the vernacular, give 'er.
We'll keep topping up the evaporator as it boils down over the course of the day with the remaining sap we collected this morning. By tonight we should see just a little over a litre of maple syrup. General rule is 40 litres of sap makes 1 litre of syrup,
Meanwhile, we'll enjoy this beautiful wintry-looking spring day.
