Great Blue Heron
The other day, we noticed a dead mouse in the lake beside the boathouse dock and wondered how it got there.
A day later, the mouse was gone and then we wondered where it went.
Today this beautiful bird appeared at roughly the same spot where we saw the mouse. No doubt the Great Blue Heron has something to do with the mystery.

At a park near my daughter's condo in California, there were always several Great Blue Herons wondering around and they were catching mice/gophers or whatever. I only saw them attempt to catch something but daughter saw one catch and swallow one during her run.
