Sunday night, everything goes quiet around here when the cottagers leave.
And when it's quiet, wildlife comes to visit.
Tonight we were visited by some big birds.
The first one that came was big turkey.
A hen.
She rolled in the freshly placed topsoil surrounding the new patio stones we so painstakingly (emphasis on the word pain…as in back pain) laid on the old driveway.
Lucy had been rolling in it earlier. There must be something so irresistible in the soil.
Not an hour later, a Great Blue Heron arrived on the shoreline much to the chagrin of the local chipmunk population who began a chorus of loud clucking upon it's arrival.
Other than chipmunks clucking, there isn't a sound … no boats, no floatplanes, no nothing … on this quiet Sunday evening.
How nice to have all those visitors!
