Let sleeping dogs lie (literally)

Lucy has been jumping off the dock to go for a swim the past few days.
The water isn't too cold for her and considering her ancestors were bred to swim in the cold Atlantic off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, Lake Muskoka must feel like a virtual hot tub.

It's been hot and sunny for the past several and if this keeps up, the lake will be warm enough to go swimming by the long weekend.

In the late afternoon yesterday, we all took a break on the deck to enjoy the peace and solitude. Our wet worn out dog took a nice long nap.

We put peanuts out on the railing for Chippy.

With cheek pouches full of nuts, Chippy scurried down the railing right behind where Lucy was snoozing.

Each time Chippy returned for more nuts he would go right up to sleeping Lucy.

Eventually Lucy woke up ignoring the annoying Chipmunk and found another spot out of his way and then went back to sleep.

Sometimes when Lucy is sleeping on the deck, Chickadees come right up to her tail looking for fur to line their nests. She's not to keen when they do that and runs off.

  1. What a glorious season! I think we may have skipped spring altogether and gone right into summer, but after this past winter we have all earned this delightful weather. We are having a dry spring though here in upstate NY and have decided to plant very little in our garden this year, don't want to tap out the well. But that's OK too, easier on the old backs when we do less gardening and leaves more time for fishing, napping, sitting and doing not much of anything. Even on the meager income of retirement, life is perfect. We don't live on a lake, but we have 60 acres of woods, hills (little mountains) and our lag cabin overlooks our fresh water pond large enough for our paddle boats and fishing and feeding our few farm animals. The wild ducks and geese come to hatch out their new babes, then move them out, very considerate so as not to foul the pastures (I think our big dog has something to do with moving them on out!). love reading your blog each morning and seeing your pictures as I sip my morning coffee. Thanks for this great start to my day.

  2. That is hilarious about the chickadees and Lucy's tail! We had two dogs at one time...one of them tried her best to catch/kill Mama Squirrel and the other was like Lucy. And Mama Squirrel knew who was who. She would go right up to Shelby, but if Keesha was around, she was very aware. And would sometimes get just on the other side of the fence and sit there. We swore she knew what she was doing....
