I was in my sewing room stroking my fabric when all of a sudden I smelled smoke. Not good since it's been so dry lately and there's a complete fire ban in effect. It's windy today too.
So I went outside and determined it was coming from the Milford Bay area. A quick call to one of my firefighter friends confirmed that location.
It was the picturesque Huckleberry Rock that was on fire.
50 homes and cottages were evacuated and water bombers were called in. By the end of the day, it was under control but still burning.
From experience, I think a brush fire is frightening. Scarier than a structure fire in my opinion. A gust of wind will fan the fire and you can literally watch the flames hop from tree top to tree top spreading like, well, wildfire.
I have never seen one and hope I never do...don't even like to see them on TV.
