Despite the sun, it's chilly outside and there is still a little bit of snow still on the ground.
The leaves on this maple tree haven't figured out winter is approaching and they need to turn colour and fall to the ground.
The beech trees have it figured out.
The leaves on the younger beeches hang on all winter. It's called marcescence.
It's supposed to deter deer and moose from eating the tender branches.
Makes you wonder how beech trees figured that out and not birch trees. The deer around here just love birch leaves and the tender branches.
We have sun again today, too..yesterday it was on/off. I can take a day or two of cloudy weather, but when it goes for days on end...it really gets to me.
