January thaw

There were recording breaking temperatures down in the Big Smoke over the weekend and I suspect they were here too.  I read +11 on our not-so-accurate-thermometer but if it wasn't that exact temperature, it sure felt like it.

It rained quite a bit beginning on Thursday creating a shallow lake on the frozen lake.

A great deal of the snow in the forest melted.

The lake ice hasn't moved at all though.  So if you happen to be our next door neighbour you can see your dock is safe and there is a thin layer of ice all around.

The lake looks like one giant puddle.  When all that water freezes, it's going to make a fantastic skating rink!

The warm temperature and the ice created foggy conditions over the weekend.   Driving was treacherous in some spots, especially at night.

It was really quite beautiful to watch the fog roll around the islands.

Everything is supposed to go back to normal this week. 5-10cm of snow is in the forecast with minus temperatures.
