Mid-winter

Technically mid-winter is December 22nd.  However back then, winter weather was just getting started and it didn't feel like the middle of anything.

Today, it does feel like we're at a mid point.  We've had plenty of wintry weather under our belt, the lake is frozen and despite the rain we had last week, there is still plenty of snow on the ground.

Lately I've noticed it's staying lighter later in the evening.  This morning the shadows were looking somewhat spring-like.  So we must be at a mid-winter point.

My camera just can't capture exactly what I see.  The sun cast beautiful shadows on the snow sitting on the lake this morning.

It was a beautiful colour too, changing from a pinky mauve to a golden hue as the sun rose higher.

Meanwhile out in the back woods 8 deer heard me filling the bird feeder.

"Oh please Miss, we're cold and hungry, can you spare some bird seed?"

According to The Weather Network forecast, there'll be snow starting tonight and a deep freeze for next week.

Here's hoping we are halfway through winter!

  2. Hello, what beautiful pictures. I live in Calgary, almost a year and a half. We moved from Chile and really I expected views like yours. I live in the city so no deer, or ducks. Sometimes a pair of bunnies. It is really beautiful the place where you live, and those deers, and the lake. Really Beautiful.
