Wake up!

I slept in.  Usually, I'm up before sunrise. The bright sun streaming in through a crack in the curtains woke me up.
I got up and stuck just my face through the curtains to see what kind of day it was. To my surprise, this fellow was looking right back at me.

Fortuitously, my camera was on the bedside table.

Well as it turned out, it was a beautiful day outside.  New fallen snow had coated all the trees in a light sugary powder. The air was crisp and still. And the sun was shining brightly lighting up this little corner or paradise.

Some folks go south during the winter. Not me. I'd rather not miss a moment of mornings like this.

Don't tell me about the Carnival of Venice and the Delhi Durbar. Don't! I wouldn't look at them. I'd shut my eyes!
For light and colour give me every time a Muskoka winter morning with newly fallen snow coating the evergreens and the morning sun highlighting the shadows on the frozen lake.
Talk of your Papal Zouaves and your Buckingham Palace Guard! I want to see a white-tailed deer in it's winter coat camouflaged in the quiet forest of beech, maple and oak.

(with apologies to Stephen Leacock; Marine Excursion of the Knights of Pythias.)

  2. Oh, I am so much like that...maybe not Muskoka, but I would rather visit there than the famous places. Any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
