More syrup

From the frozen sap we collected in the week........

....we got this.

It's roughly 1.3 liters and we think it's the best batch yet. It tastes absolutely wonderful!

We're getting wiser each time we boil.  The candy thermometer we were using had a gauge that was difficult to determine the 219-220 oF marking. So we used the digital meat thermometer this time around and set the alarm at 219 so we could pull it off the stove at 220 oF.

Also, we've set the turkey fryer under the overhang downstairs. That way we can view it from indoors while sitting in an armchair in front of the fire and watching a movie on TV.

  1. Hi! I didn't realize that you had another blog! I just read your posts of the last week and enjoyed learning about making maple syrup. It reminded me of reading "The Little House" books when I was a little girl. Those woodpeckers are gorgeous!
