Three Woodpeckers

Three Pileated woodpeckers showed up this morning.  From time to time we see two of them together, but three?  I was completely giddy with excitement.

All three birds were on the trees in the photo below but one was tucked in behind.

They kept moving around the tree trunks in a spiral motion and I was hoping all three would come in to camera view. And when they did, I missed the shot. Doh. I should have switched the camera to video.

I tilted the camera hoping to get two on one trunk but the one that was hiding took off.

It landed in one of our untapped Sugar Maples.

It better not tap a hole in that tree!

All three jumped from tree to tree chasing each other for quite some time so I presume they are courting and establishing territory.
